We got the results of his skeletal scan today. His oncologist says that his spine, pelvic bone, his thighs and both upper arms are effected. He mentioned no other course of treatment other than the dex and thalidomide. I'm going to call the Oncologist in the morning and ask about the aredia and zometa. He has not mentioned either of those to us. ???

Thankfully, my Dad is interested in a second opinion. Not that he's doubting the diagnosis, it's just that we've read so many different things as far as treatment.... My Mom is calling Mayo in the morning to see if she can have him seen there.

Beth, I'd love to join the support list. How do I go about doing that?

I'm so grateful to have found this board.....I just can't tell you. Thank you both for your encouragement and for all the wonderful information.

I should add: His Oncologist said he has IgG Lambda myeloma. Not sure how that differs from other varieties, so I guess I still have lots of research to do.

Thank you so much, Beth. xo

Jsnow, you were absolutely right. They called my Dad on Friday and asked him to come in for a Zometa IV that afternoon. He felt pretty badly yesterday, but we're not sure if that's the Thalidomide kicking in or the IV he had. This morning, my Mom had to take him to the ER to be catheterized. They had told us that would be a possible side effect of the Zometa IV. He sees a Urologist tomorrow morning.

On an up note, he said in spite of the catheterization, he feels better today than he did yesterday.

I don't know much about the urinary problems your Dad is experiencing -- hopefully that will be short-lived. Zometa does tend to causes achy bone pain, especially after the first few infusions. Most people get used to it after that. Usually that only lasts a few days.

Good luck.
