calcium supplements/new doctor? 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
I was diagnosed with mm last month. I am now beginning Revlimid. My doctor gave a written prescription to me to take to the drug store???? Needless to say, I can not get this at the drug store. shouldn't he have known this? He is also suggesting I take calcium supplements even though I have no bone loss as yet. Is that safe? I am beginning to have doubts about my doctor and am wanting to go to another that has been recommended to me. Can I do this and how do I go about changing?

thanks for your help.

Hi -

If your insurance company doesn't require a referral, you may just be able to call the doctor you wish to see on your own and make an appointment. No matter what, a second opinion is ALWAYS in order where any serious condition is involved. You don't need your doctor's permission to get a second opinion.

Is this your primary care physician who is writing the Rx for Revlimid? He didn't do his homework . You cannot just walk into the pharmacy and present a prescription for Rev and expect to get it filled. Did he write it for the correct dosage?

This was my hematologist that did this. I did get a second opinion/consultation from the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. The doctor there is the one who prescribed Revlimid and sent the information to my specialist.

Are you geographically close enough to Moffitt that you can use someone there as your primary heme/onc?

I am 3 hours away from Moffitt. However, I have contacted a support group and have several doctor referrals.

It was my hematologist who wrote the prescription on the directon from Moffitt.

What about taking the calcium supplement? I am concerned about that because of it going through my kidneys. I am not losing any calcium as yet.
