Most MM patients receive oral dexamethasone as a part of their treatment at some point. the usual dose is 40 mg in pulses of some kind, or possibly weekly or many other doses and schedules. The trouble is, dex, as we call it, isn't manufactured in 40 mg tablets. You will probably receive it in a 4 mg tablet and be told to take 10 of them. The trouble is, most of us were never told whether we take it all at once and when to take it.
I have not heard of any patient doing anything other than taking the 40 mg all at once. One thing we all agree on, is that you must take it with food. It's also highly recommended that you have a prescription for some kind of drug such as ranitidine or cimetidine, since dex is known to cause indigestion. Please talk to your doctor about this.
The time of day you take it is up to you, as long as you take it the same time each day. A lot of folks like to take it in the evening, since their experience is that it's less disruptive to their sleep at night. Others have no problem taking it in the morning.
